Runnymede Borough Council asked us to create a unified wayfinding system for Chertsey, Egham and Addlestone that improved clarity, encouraged walking and celebrated each town’s character. Through site visits, workshops and close collaboration, we uncovered navigation challenges and local stories that shaped a consistent yet flexible design. The resulting family of signs, custom maps and town-specific details now encourage discovery and help people explore confidently, enabling them to connect with each place’s heritage.
We developed a hybrid wayfinding system that balanced coherence with local distinction across three towns. Insight from walkarounds and collaborative workshops informed a shared framework, while colours, motifs and illustrated maps reflected each town’s identity. We designed a family of durable, modular signs - from totems to directional panels - and supported the Council through specifications, permits and project management. With the final wayfinding system implemented in Chertsey ahead of the other towns, the scheme has enhanced navigation and strengthened a sense of place.
