UCLan’s wayfinding system was redesigned as part of a broader rebrand to improve campus navigation and create a stronger sense of community. The project aimed to align the physical environment with the University’s refreshed identity while enhancing the experience for students, staff, and visitors. By establishing a cohesive, accessible, and sustainable approach, the wayfinding system strengthens connection to place and purpose, reflecting the University’s values and ambitions. It provides a foundation for future growth across UCLan’s multi-campus network.
Our research-led process included site surveys, campus tours, and workshops with students, staff, and stakeholders, revealing navigation challenges and opportunities for engagement. The new wayfinding system introduces defined campus zones, clear arrival points, and integrated storytelling elements that celebrate UCLan’s history. Sustainable materials, including locally produced ceramic tiles, reinforce University’s environmental values and a sense of community. Designed with inclusivity and adaptability in mind, the wayfinding system embeds the University’s refreshed brand within the city and connects people with place.
