For a week each year the capital buzzes with creativity, fuelled by multiple exhibitions, installations, workshops and more as London Design Festival celebrates London as the design capital of the world. This year some of our team took time out to explore the programme.

First things first; we reviewed the extensive programme: there was so much going on! As well as the big ticket exhibitions, such as 100%, there were design trails through various districts and many smaller events across the capital. In the end we couldn’t agree on what to go to, so we all went our separate ways to cover as much as ground as possible!

Here are some of our highlights.

There’s currently a lot of speculation and debate about the future of the automotive retail industry. The success of Rockar’s Hyundai and Jaguar Land Rover stores, located in Westfield Stratford shopping centre, has opened conversations about how vehicle retail might sit in the wider retail world. Other automotive brands, such as SEAT, are already following Rockar’s lead by launching their own take on a shopping-centre automotive showroom.

Well-being - Arms wide openOver recent months we’ve been giving some thought to the big trends affecting customer and employee experience for the future. One topic on our radar that looks like being ‘hot’ for 2017 is well-being.

This isn’t a new trend, but it continues to take interesting twists and turns. In 2016 we saw well-being manifest itself through diets and wellness studios, mindfulness in the workplace, FitBit’s new product innovations and the moment that athleisure became a thing. In 2017 well-being is set to further open its boundaries and become a solidified part of brand experience for the most innovative and self-aware companies and organisations.

A few of the team were lucky enough to attend this year’s Retail Design Expo. After last year’s success we couldn’t wait to go back and get inspired. We've found it to be a great way to refresh our creative minds and take a moment to think about the bigger picture again.

We sat in many of the talks that were taking place in Theatres 1 and 2, and while they were all great we thought we would pick out two of the talks that really stood out for us.

At Integrity, we have started a new tradition, hosting the so-called Integrity Design Challenge (IDC) – where we get tasked with a fun but challenging brief. Brainstorming these little tasks helps us to break out of the weekly routine for a while and sharpen our creative edge. We spot trends and learn how to apply them through these conceptual projects, but we never forget that the main objective is to have fun!
