Emma Square LoResPart of our #meettheteam mini series

We think our team are great, so we’d like you to get to know us a bit better so maybe, just maybe you’ll think the same. Every fortnight we’ll introduce to you a new member of our team, to give you a flavour of what it’s like to work with us.

To kick things off we would like to introduce to you Emma she’s one of our chattiest members so it seemed like a natural starting point! She’s been with us for just over 10 years (an old timer) and is one of our talented Senior Design Consultants.

So let’s get cracking.

Tea or coffee?
Tea, hands down, I just don’t really like coffee. I can’t drink coffee before 2pm and even then it has to be a milky one - the coffee in the office is just way too strong for me. So yes I am a tea drinker.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
I’ve got a couple. My music guilty pleasure is Michael Bolton! I love a bit of Michael, but in his mullet phase - that’s when he was at his best!

My clothes guilty pleasure is leopard print. I absolutely love leopard print! I’ve got leopard print shoes, leopard print trousers, leopard print tights, leopard print scarf, and leopard print dress. I once wore my leopard print tights and a pink dress to work and Tim (our boss) sent a picture of a leopard with a crude pink box on it around the office I think he was jealous!

Another thing I love doing and have been doing for years, is visiting show homes. I’ll just go round of a Saturday morning and visit showrooms. Not to buy the house, just for inspiration, they have all sorts of different ways of doing things. It’s great if you’re decorating your own house you get all sorts of ideas.

What’s your favourite animated film?
Oooohh. One of the ones that’s up there is ‘Up’. Ha ‘Up’ there.

Tangled is on in my house at least once a week at the moment though my daughter is obsessed. But I think Up is my favourite, it’s lovely. I also really like Rio I love at the beginning when they are singing because it’s so colourful, I love bright colours.

Can you remember what it was that made you want to get into this field?
Oh my goodness how long ago was that!

Right ok, so back in my day there was art & design and design & technology and I excelled in both (modest I know). I liked how creative you could be in art and the more technical side that DT gave. When I started to look at some courses with my teachers, they suggested Design Management as it covered all aspects that I enjoyed, and it just went from there.

I guess you could say it kind of found me. It just made sense it fitted with what I enjoyed. There wasn’t a defining moment no Eureka moment or anything it just made sense for me, it was the right fit.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?
Meeting people I love meeting people.

I like an element of pressure, so I like getting out of the office and being thrown into new situations. I’m a very sociable person so I like being put in different situations with different people and the chance to get to know them.

I’ve been lucky that I’ve worked closely with my clients for a number of years so you get to know them. When you work with a client for so long you build a good relationship with them, and you become friends – I really like that.

When are you most creative?
I’m a morning person, so in the morning - I can start to lose momentum as the day goes on.

I also love spring, I think I’m at my best in Spring!

How do you get over a creative hump?
A brainstorm. I need to talk things through with people, I find talking it through always helps. I do this with all aspects of my life though if I ever hit a brick wall with something, I’ll chat it through with someone. Talking is my therapy.

SelfPortrait Crop

So to round it off, Emma’s all over leopard print and loves working under pressure and having a good chat!

See you in a few weeks when we unveil our next #meettheteam interview with none other than Matt ‘Stoners’ Stonely.
